ARTIAIN GALLERY

This paining was one of a series of studies of mackeral that were undertaken whilst studying art and design at De Montfort University.
The board was primed with a turquois acrylic paint to stop it warping. This tones acts to accentuate the black tones applied later.
The fish themselves were defined using thin brushes to create shimmering tones of contrasting detail.
Layers of paint were applied in such a way as to produce a 3D effect over a background dabbed on with broad brushes and sponges giving the impression of water.
